The problems at the Medical Centre seem largely a thing of the past. In the Autumn Newsletter they mention that with an increase in clinical staff, they are looking at extended opening hours and seeking patients’ views with more participation by the Patient Focus Group.
They are concerned at the number of missed appointments: in August 227 patients failed to attend and this rose to 247 in September thus blocking other patients who needed appointments. In October,
Robert Farmer retired after 26 years as pharmacist at Courts. However, they were delighted to welcome back Mark Wilkinson whose father was pharmacist some years ago. He talked to B.R.A. at the October Coffee Morning. He described the many changes since the NHS began in 1949 and what a modern pharmacy has to offer the community, from free blood and blood glucose testing – no appointment required – to The Stop Smoking Service.
The M.U.R. service allows the customer to come in and discuss all aspects of their medication whilst the N.M.R. service advises on new medication. The focus is on providing information and helping with life-style as much as dispensing drugs. He highlighted the massive amount of drugs returned to pharmacies each year, and explained that they then have to be destroyed which is a terrible waste.
Mark is happy to see people in Courts which next year celebrates 90 years in Station Road.
